I went to Birmingham, AL and all I got were these photos

So Fritz, Brogan and I went on our first trip together. Brogan took his first plane ride. For some reason, we didn't take any photos documenting these milestones - no photo with the plane's captain (our captain on the way back was named Captain Kirk), no shot of Brogan sleeping in the airplane seat, no photo of me breaking a sweat trying get myself and a baby through security. The purpose of the trip was for my friend Anna's wedding. I was a bridesmaid. We didn't get any photos of the wedding either (it was beautiful) or of me in my bridesmaid getup. We failed pretty miserably in documenting the occasion.

However, the few photos we did take capture the essence of the trip. Fritz got to spend lots of quality time with Bo. And we got to introduce Bo to our close friends. The last photo is my dear friend Kate getting cozy with the dude.

One of Bo's Favorite Hangouts

Grandma Cathy's lap!

Lake Geneva, WI

We drove up to Lake Geneva, WI this past Sunday to get a break from the city. The town has been a popular vacation spot for residents of the Chicagoland Area for a long time. It's popularity was evident when we got stuck in a traffic jam on the main street immediately upon arriving. The town itself left something to be desired - we were hoping for a quaint, quiet small town (peak season is well over by now) but found crowds and chain stores and restaurants.

We were happier once we embarked on our long walk. When the town was founded, the land immediately adjacent to the lake was kept as public property. Both large estates and lovely little vacation homes were built all around the lake as the years passed, but the land next to the water remained open to the public. Even now visitors can walk the 21 miles around the lake with the water on one side and the impressive homes and gardens on the other. We just did part of the walk, but it was really beautiful and fun to see all the homes. Our BOB stroller performed amazingly well on the unpaved path allowing Brogan to sleep through the whole experience.

(By the way, the hat Brogan is wearing is yet another adorable hat made by Fritz's Aunt Mary. Thank you Mary!)

Bo's Crib

Bo likes to relax in his crib and watch his mobile. Now he just needs to learn to sleep in his crib. Brogan is still sleeping in our room in a co-sleeper bassinet. We are thinking about making the transition to him sleeping in his own room soon. I think we all might sleep better that way. I'll keep you posted.

2 Month Check-Up

Brogan had his 2 month check-up today. He is 23 1/2 inches long and weighs 12lbs 7oz! He got a few shots, but he was brave and only cried a little bit.

Packin' it on

Brogan is packin' on the pounds and getting some adorable chub. He has a check-up on Monday so we'll find out then how much he weighs.

Autumn Baby

Fall has arrived in Chicago so we got Brogan a new fleece. It's a little big now but hopefully it will last through the cold Chicago spring. The adorable red hat he is wearing in the other photos was made by Fritz's Aunt Mary.
(And yes, lots of car seat photos, but it is one of the times I can capture Bo's cuteness when I'm by myself; I can't hold Brogan and take a photo of him at the same time!)

More Week 7

This week Bo has started really paying attention to his hands and feet. He likes to watch them move around, and he likes to suck on his hand and fingers. He is very interested in mobiles and hanging toys - he'll look at them for ages. He is making more sounds - adding some high pitched squeaks, loud "gaks!" and fake coughing to his soft coos and excited huffing. He is also busy getting chubby and growing darker eyebrows.

Week 7 -

Two Tigers

We need to get Brogan his own Tigers hat - we've got a long off season to pick out the perfect one. (Don't mention the Tigers to Fritz, he's still in mourning.)

Lesson Learned

I have learned a valuable parenting lesson: when your baby does something as incredible and highly anticipated as sleep for seven straight hours, DO NOT jinx it by blabbing about it on your blog.

Bo has regressed and is now sleeping like a 4 week old - 2-3 hours at a time at night. Oh well. At least we know he is capable of sleeping for longer. But next time it happens don't expect to read about it here!
